Myanmar Navy Seizes Cargo Boat and Detains Seven People in Kyaukphyu Township

Two speedboats launched from a large Myanmar Navy vessel anchored in the Thanzi River in Kyaukphyu Township fired upon and seized a civilian cargo motorboat at Min Naing Chaung Wa creek on June 8.

The cargo motorboat, which belonged to U Shwe Khe, a resident of South Okkalapa ward, Ramree town, was captured at approximately 3:00 p.m..

Seven individuals, including U Shwe Khe and labor leader U Sein Win Maung, were arrested and taken to Kyaukphyu town along with goods worth over 200 million kyats.

A source familiar with the incident reported, "The boat was carrying kerosene, diesel, and engine oil worth over 200 million kyats. The motorboat itself is valued at over 300 million kyats. It has now been taken to Kyaukphyu."

The source added that the seven detainees have been sent to Kyaukphyu Prison and the confiscated goods have been seized

Similarly, on the evening of June 8, a motorboat transporting pigs was pursued by a navy speedboat in the Thanzi River and fired upon with machine guns.

The attack seriously injured Maung Bat Pe (15) and U Maung Han (52) from Sittara Village, Ann Township, though the boat managed to evade capture. Both victims are currently hospitalized with severe bullet wounds.

Local sources note that military naval forces have aggressively entered territories controlled by the Arakan Army, frequently harassing and arresting civilians and travelers, raising severe concerns among local residents and tourists.
