One civilian was injured when a Myanmar military jet bombed the flood-hit township of Gwa in Rakhine State yesterday evening, according to reports.
The injured victim is U Kyaw Thu (39) from Kin Yon Ward.
The military dropped four bombs on Gwa twice on July 14, at 4:00 PM and again at 4:07 AM.
One bomb landed in the new Thein Kone area. Three bombs exploded around the former Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) office in Kin Yon Ward, destroying the building and injuring U Kyaw Thu.
Prior to this, at around 10:00 PM on July 13, Myanmar military Y-12 aircraft attacked the flooded township about 10 times. They dropped 52 bombs, according to Arakan Army (AA) sources.
These strikes follow a July 10 missile attack on a school in Dhani Group, Kalachaung Village, and Pauk Tu Village. That bombing killed four civilians and seriously injured one in Kalachaung. It also destroyed a Buddhist monastery and seven houses in Pauk Tu.
Local sources state the military is launching these airstrikes on civilian areas in Gwa Township to pressure resistance forces led by Arakan Army (AA) . This follows heavy military defeats at the border of Ayeyarwady and Rakhine States.
