Myanmar Military Regime Claims Attack on Mandalay’s Tada-U Airport Violates Geneva Conventions

The military regime, which itself carries out daily aerial bombings that kill civilians, has stated that the attack on Mandalay’s Tada-U International Airport using FPV suicide drones constitutes a violation of the Geneva Conventions and international law.

The accusation comes from a junta that itself carries out daily aerial bombings killing civilians across the country.

According to reports, revolutionary joint forces, including the People's Defense Force (PDF), launched an attack around 2:00 PM yesterday, September 10, using six FPV suicide drones. The resistance forces targeted the Tada-U Air Force Base, which shares facilities with the public international airport in Tada-U Township, Mandalay Region.

The junta issued a statement claiming its security forces successfully intercepted the attack and that there was no damage to personnel, vehicles, or airport runways.

However, the military acknowledged that the incident forced a temporary suspension of domestic flights, while travel advisories separately confirmed that Myanmar Airways International (MAI) temporarily suspended all international flights out of the airport following the strike.

Contradicting the regime's claims of a successful interception with zero damage, drone footage released by the revolutionary forces indicates that at least four military aircraft were struck, with two sustaining damage so severe they were rendered irreparable. Casualties were also reported among Air Force personnel.

While the regime continues to claim the public facility attack is being widely condemned with revulsion, resistance forces maintain that the base is a legitimate strategic target heavily utilized by the junta to coordinate its ongoing brutal aerial campaigns.
