The Myanmar military launched a jet fighter airstrike on Gwa Township this morning, killing three civilians, including a 3-year-old child, and seriously injuring two others.
The deceased were identified as U Nyunt Maung (53), Daw Ma Malay (57), and Po Thar Lay (3) from Kalachaung village in the Dhani village tract of Gwa Township, southern Rakhine State near the Ayeyarwady division.
At around 10:00 a.m., the military indiscriminately dropped two bombs on Kalachaung village. According to APM, a media outlet close to the Arakan Army (AA), the attack resulted in the aforementioned casualties.
The military also carried out further airstrikes in the township, with ongoing investigations into the total extent of the damage being led by Narinjara.
Local conflict observers have strongly condemned the junta’s continued use of jets and bombs in Gwa Township as a barbaric act, particularly as several areas across Rakhine State are simultaneously suffering from severe monsoon flooding.
