An elderly civilian was killed and three others were injured this morning during a Myanmar military airstrike on Thandwe town in southern Arakan State.

The deceased has been identified as 77-year-old Daw Than Kyaw. The injured civilians are Daw Aye Kyaw, 70; Ko Yan Naung Htet, 28; and Ma Moe Moe Myint Aung, 28.

The military conducted two separate airstrikes on Thandwe today, dropping bombs on 1st Street (near the top of Ang Pagoda New Road) and 3rd Street in Ward No. 8/B.

In addition to causing civilian casualties, the explosions heavily damaged six houses and several nearby commercial shops.

"Other streets and residential areas were also damaged," a local resident reported, noting that the Myanmar Navy simultaneously launched artillery shelling from offshore.

The Arakan Army (AA) released a statement confirming that the military council's forces initiated the bombardment of Thandwe town at 10:30 a.m. The AA further reported that the military carried out additional airstrikes in portions of Ponnagyun township earlier this morning between 7:45 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.

Today’s strikes follow a deadly aerial assault on Thandwe town just weeks ago.

On August 16, military bombardment targeted Ward No. 8/A, killing 50-year-old U Min Naung and his 14-year-old daughter, Ma Chun Lai Shwe Yi, and leaving six other residents injured.
