Myanmar junta leader Min Aung Hlaing announced that the Military Council would provide aid to internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by last month’s fighting. However, according to locals and aid workers, no such assistance has reached those in need as of 22 February.
During a cabinet meeting on 17 January in Naypyidaw, Min Aung Hlaing stated that the National Disaster Management Fund would be allocated to support displaced individuals.
Despite this claim, IDPs and humanitarian workers insist that no aid has arrived on the ground.
“The junta does not genuinely want to help people. They are the ones causing displacement. They have no real intention of assisting, which is why their promised aid has not reached us,” said Naw Wah Khu Shee, director of the Karen Peace Support Network (KPSN).
