Myanmar’s junta has dismissed a resolution adopted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) as politically driven and unfair, following the 113th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) held on 5 June.
The resolution calls on Myanmar to comply with two key international labour treaties – Convention No. 87 on Freedom of Association and Convention No. 29 on Forced Labour – and urges the implementation of recommendations from the ILO’s Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into labour rights violations in the country.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Labour, the regime expressed strong opposition to what it described as “unwarranted measures” and accused the ILO of abandoning impartiality. It claimed the resolution was adopted without proper engagement with Myanmar and criticized the move as damaging to the ILO’s tripartite structure, which includes representatives of governments, workers, and employers.
