Two local residents, including a woman, were killed and three others sustained severe injuries after Myanmar junta forces conducted a series of aerial attacks using gyrocopters in Myaing Township, Magway Region.
According to an information officer from the Anyar Myay Allied Forces, the junta deployed three gyrocopters to drop bombs on Bhone Gyi Kan and Ywar Thit Kone villages, as well as the Kyauk Khwat and Let Pan To oil field blocks, between 20 December and 22 December.
The series of aerial attacks involved three consecutive days of strikes, with each gyrocopter reportedly conducting two sorties per day. The attacks resulted in the death of a woman from Bhone Gyi Kan village and a man from Ywar Thit Kone village, while also causing fire damage to several civilian homes.
Local residents reported living in constant fear as the junta continues to utilize smaller, low-flying aircraft for targeted bombings in the northern part of the township.
Simultaneously, a ground column of approximately 150 troops from Light Infantry Division 101, based in Pakokku, has been launching offensive operations in southern Myaing Township.
Witnesses stated that the column, supported by air cover, has been arresting and killing local residents and setting fire to homes. This same military unit was reportedly responsible for killing a local man in Kamma Township on 14 December and burning down 24 houses in Zaung Gyan Kone village, Pakokku Township.
As of 23 December, the column has reportedly returned to the Kamma area, prompting further displacement and security concerns among the local population.
