Myanmar Junta Forces Beat Civilians and Escalate Terror in Shan State

Military junta forces in Ywangan Township, southern Shan State, have launched a campaign of arbitrary arrests, daily troop patrols, and violent village raids, resulting in the death of an unarmed civilian from severe beatings and widespread displacement.

The military buildup follows a series of incidents in late July, including a July 22 clash between junta troops and the Danu People's Liberation Army near Hsinhsarpyar Village, as well as the murder of a local Buddhist monk whose body was discovered on July 21 between Pwaynahpar and Nwarbangyi villages.

In response, the regime deployed roughly 100 troops to establish bases in Nwarbangyi and Pwaynahpar, imposing strict security checks and launching near-daily patrols into surrounding forest areas.

The heavy military presence has effectively paralyzed local livelihoods, leaving residents unable to tend to their farms and orchards.
