Myanmar junta fleet in Chindwin River attacked in Kani Township

Revolutionary forces attacked a convoy of Myanmar military vessels traveling upstream along the Chindwin River in Kani Township, Sagaing Region, on 6 July.

The attack, involving 13 mines, occurred within the Shwesayay eddy area in Kani Township.

The Daung Myo Sat-Kani People’s Defense Force released a video of the assault, though Mizzima could not independently confirm the extent of the damage or casualties sustained by the military. A member of the Daung Myo Sat-Kani PDF stated on social media, “We attack whether they go upstream or downstream. We hope our efforts are effective.”

The military convoy, consisting of 46 vessels, including six naval boats and 40 cargo vessels with flat decks, reportedly arrived at the Ahlon Min Daung jetty in Monywa on the morning of 4 July, according to the Anya Myay Pit Taing Htaung Lay Myar group. By the morning of 6 July, 28 of these vessels had proceeded upstream from Alon Min Daung jetty and reached the vicinity of Min Oh village and Ai Taung village in Kani Township, locals reported.

During the monsoon season, as the Chindwin River widens due to flooding, the military frequently uses naval vessels for extensive arms and ammunition resupply. The presence of this convoy has forced over 10,000 residents from approximately 10 villages along the riverbanks to displace themselves to safer areas since 8:30 AM on 6 July.
