Fighting has escalated in Rakhine State’s Kyaukphyu Township since early January as junta forces and the ethnic Arakan Army (AA) clash around the Danyawaddy Naval Headquarters and Police Battalion 32.
Sources close to the AA report that the junta has met AA advances with intensifying air, drone and artillery strikes.
Fighting has advanced to within 3.6 km of Danyawaddy naval base and around villages close to the Kyaukphyu-Danyawaddy junction. Clashes have also erupted near Police Battalion 32, roughly 8 km from Kyaukphyu town, according to a source close to the AA.
