Two dozen people have died as the regime escalated airstrikes, arson raids and other attacks on civilian targets across the Bamar heartland over the past week ahead of the election.

By The Irrawaddy’s count, the junta conducted some 40 aerial bombardments as well as artillery strikes, arson attacks and raids on villages in Sagaing, Magwe and Mandalay Regions in the runup to this Sunday’s poll.
