Myanmar’s military council approved amendments to the country’s conscription law last Friday that prohibit anyone eligible for military service from going abroad without prior permission.
Myanmar Now was able to access the text of new bylaws drafted under the People’s Military Service Law, which are still classified and have not been made public.
The bylaws authorise local administrators to make lists of ward and village residents within the age range for military service and demand that they undergo medical examinations at township-level administrative offices.
