Myanmar Junta Denies Daw Aung San Suu Kyi Is Dead – Without Offering Proof

Myanmar’s military regime has rejected speculation that detained civilian leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi may have died, insisting in a statement to reporters on Tuesday that the world’s oldest political prisoner remains in good health.

Rights groups and opposition figures immediately questioned the claim, pointing to the regime’s refusal to allow family members or independent observers to meet the 80‑year‑old Nobel laureate.

U Bo Kyi, joint secretary of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), said the junta’s statement lacked credibility.
