Myanmar junta conducts deadly daily bombings on IDP shelters in Mandalay’s Ngazun

Seven people, including a Buddhist monk, were killed and four others severely injured after the military junta launched airstrikes on forested areas where internally displaced persons (IDPs) are sheltering in Ngazun Township, Mandalay Region.

Despite the absence of active clashes, the junta has been carrying out attacks using drones, Mi-35 helicopters, and jet fighters from 2 September until 15 September, according to a local source in Ngazun.

“They mostly use drones to drop bombs. They come and bomb us every day; it has happened so many times that I lost count. Our village, Thar Kyin, and Kula village have been targeted the most. On the night before last (13 September), they also continuously fired heavy artillery from downtown Ngazun, and no one dared to sleep the entire night,” a local resident told Mizzima.

On 6 September, the junta launched an airstrike on Ywar Thit Monastery in Min Gyo village while monks were having their meal, killing seven people: a monk, a woman, and five men. Another monk, a woman, and two men were also injured, according to the local resident.

The junta has been conducting daily rotational airstrikes across almost all parts of Ngazun Township, with the exception of the northern region. Targeted villages include Kula, Thar Kyin, Than Kone, Min Gyo, Min Gyi, Myotha, and Myauk Kyinn.

Homes were also destroyed in Thar Kyin village, and over 30,000 local residents have been displaced and forced to flee.

While the junta is forcibly conscripting citizens for military service in major cities, it continues to launch relentless airstrikes on villages where there are no ongoing clashes.
