Myanmar Junta Airstrikes Kill 100 Civilians During Shift to ‘Civilian Rule’

Relentless regime airstrikes have killed around 100 civilians since the junta-installed parliament opened on March 16. The period has been marked by shift in junta tactics, as multiple fighter jets are increasingly deployed against single targets in lethal barrages.

Raids involving multiple aircraft have resulted in mass-casualty events—killing five or more civilians—on at least six separate occasions.

The regime has deployed up to eight aircraft to bombard a single target, ramping up its indiscriminate aerial campaign even as a severe fuel shortage forces domestic airlines to cut flights.
