A Myanmar junta airstrike on 8 October killed two internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Done Htoo Htan area of western Moebye, Pekhon Township, southern Shan State, according to local sources. More than 10 others were injured, according to a local resident.
The dead were one man and one woman. Residents had prepared bomb shelters in advance, but casualties could not be avoided, the resident said. “They bombed right inside the village,” the resident said, adding that the bombs hit a site where corn was being traded and that residents are living in constant fear.
On the same day, a junta Y-12 aircraft flew reconnaissance over western Moebye and western Demoso, in Karenni State, causing panic among residents, according to residents. A local resident said junta airstrikes in southern Shan State and the surrounding Karenni area have become more frequent.
The Spring Revolution Database (SRD) recorded 226 junta airstrikes nationwide in September, including 14 in Karenni State and 16 in Shan State, according to its records. The strikes killed 186 people, 170 of them civilians and 16 revolutionary fighters, the SRD said.
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) recorded 97 people killed by the junta nationwide in September, including 82 killed by airstrikes, according to its 30 September briefing.
