Myanmar junta admits to firing on Chinese Red Cross aid convoy


The Myanmar military junta has confirmed in a statement that military troops had opened fire on a Chinese Red Cross aid convoy en route to assist victims of the March 28 earthquake that struck Sagaing and Mandalay regions.


The Chinese convoy, consisting of nine vehicles, was targeted while traveling near Nawnghkio Township in northern Shan State. 


According to a statement from Major General Zaw Min Tun, a spokesperson for the junta, the incident occurred on Tuesday, at around 9:30pm.
