Myanmar issue to be discussed at German Ambassadors’ Conference in Berlin

The situation in Myanmar and international developments will be discussed at the upcoming annual German Ambassadors’ Conference in Berlin this September, according to Mathias Licharz, Head of Mission of the German Embassy in Yangon.

Licharz made the remarks in a video clip released 26 August by the German Embassy in Yangon. German ambassadors from around the world will gather at the conference to assess and discuss international affairs alongside political leaders.

“I will also be attending the annual German Ambassadors’ Conference in Berlin this September. At this meeting, German ambassadors from all over the world will gather to discuss international developments together with political leaders,” Licharz said.

The Head of Mission also highlighted the current situation in Myanmar, including the plight of young people “unjustly” sentenced to prison terms for criticizing the junta’s planned election.

“While I am free to travel wherever I want, others are being denied their basic freedoms. For instance, nine young activists were sentenced to up to 37 years in prison just for criticizing the election organized by the military junta,” he said.

Germany will continue to demand the immediate and unconditional release of all arbitrarily detained individuals, Licharz said.
