More than 10 civilians killed by airstrike in Mandalay Region’s Mogok Township

Residents of Mogok Township in Mandalay Region told DVB that over 10 civilians, including three children and a pregnant woman, were killed in airstrikes carried out by the Myanmar Air Force near a monastery in the eastern part of the town on Thursday.

“The bombs were strong enough to blow up homes and people. Pieces of human bodies were [recovered],” a Mogok resident told DVB on the condition of anonymity, adding that more than 10 civilians were injured and at least seven homes were destroyed.

The TNLA stated on Friday that only eight civilians were killed and seven others were injured by the airstrike in Mogok on Aug. 14. Mogok is located 124 miles (200 km) northeast of Mandalay. It was seized by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in July 2024

Mogok residents and the TNLA have documented three airstrikes so far this month. A total of 17 civilians have been killed by airstrikes in Mogok on Aug. 2 and 9.
