Myanmar regime leader Min Aung Hlaing announced on Friday that regime by-elections will take place early in 2027.

Speaking following high-level talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk, Min Aung Hlaing reaffirmed plans to hold supplementary voting in 102 townships where polls were excluded during the regime’s 2025–2026 phased election due to active conflict with opposition forces.

Min Aung Hlaing invited observers from Belarus to monitor the upcoming polls. The trip marks his third visit to Minsk since the February 2021 military coup.

Bilateral Agreements and Diplomatic Expansion

The summit concluded with the signing of nine agreements encompassing defense, security, trade, and public health before Min Aung Hlaing returned to Myanmar on August 22.
