Military counteroffensive in Magway Region to recapture PDF-controlled oilfields intensifies

Around 500 Myanmar regime troops arrived in Taungson village in Magway Region’s Myaing Township on Monday as part of an escalating counteroffensive to retake control of the strategic Kyaukkwet oilfield from the People’s Defence Force (PDF).

Resistance forces launched a landmine attack against the incoming military column near Taungson—located five miles (8 km) east of Kyaukkwet oilfield Well No. 2—though no casualties were immediately reported.

The regime reinforcements were deployed from Division 101 based in Pakokku Township to reinforce ground units advancing on territory seized by the PDF in March 2024.
