Military council elections will not be allowed in areas under its control, says AA

In 15 townships under the AA's control, which includes Paletwa in Chin State, it will not allow elections for the military council, according to AA spokesperson U Khaing Thu Kha.

"Elections may be conducted in areas under the authority of the military council, but elections cannot be held in areas under our control," U Khaing Thu Kha said on August 11 at the AA's tenth press conference.

The people decide elections, and a candidate cannot win without public backing. According to U Khaing Thu Kha, the election conducted under the military dictatorship will just add to the bewilderment of the population of Rakhine.

"The elections have repeatedly held Burmese government in Rakhine State but had not benefited the Rakhine people. Therefore, I am sure that none of the Rakhine people are interested in these elections."
