At least 12 people were initially reported killed after the junta military launched an air strike on a monastery in Swel Le Oh Village, Myaung Township, Sagaing Region, at around 9:00 AM today (August 21).

It is reported that a jet fighter bombed the monastery while people were observing Sabbath vows today, killing at least 12 people, including Buddhist monks, and injuring several others.

Furthermore, the monastery's Dhamma hall collapsed and was destroyed due to the bombing, leaving some people trapped under the structure.

Currently, the injured have been sent to nearby hospitals for emergency medical treatment, and precise details regarding casualties remain unconfirmed.

Earlier on August 19, the military launched three air raids on Hlay Tin Oo Village in Myaung Township, killing a volunteer schoolteacher and two local residents, while injuring 16 others.

The junta military continues to carry out consecutive air strikes on civilian-populated areas across the country, leading to a rising toll of civilian casualties.

According to a report by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), attacks by the junta military resulted in the deaths of 140 civilians nationwide over a period of one and a half months, from July 1 to August 18, 2026.
