A Major and a Captain from the Myanmar military’s 33rd Light Infantry Division have been killed during intense clashes with the Arakan Army (AA) in the Shwe Min Gan and Nga Pi Kyun island areas of Sittwe Township.

According to military sources, Major Kaung Myint Myat was killed in action on October 16, while the Captain was killed during fighting on October 28.

"Major Kaung Myint Myat and a Captain from the 33rd Division were killed in the Shwe Min Gan and Nga Pi Kyun sectors," a military source stated. "Because the junta has sustained so many casualties, the news has been placed under a total blackout. Even the soldiers' wives and families have not been informed."

While the deceased Captain is believed to be named Min Thu, Narinjara is continuing to investigate to confirm his identity. Efforts are also underway to contact the Arakan Army for official verification.

In a separate development within the ongoing Sittwe conflict, family members revealed that another junta officer, 37-year-old Major Aung Kyaw Moe, was killed during a night battle on October 27. Originally from Paukkaung town, his body has reportedly not been recovered.

Local sources report that fierce fighting persists on Nga Pi Kyun Island, located at the mouth of the Kaladan River, where both sides continue to exchange heavy fire.

"The fighting is ongoing, and neither side is backing down," a local source said."Whenever the clashes intensify, the junta deploys aircraft, and the Navy provides heavy artillery support."

Sittwe Township remains highly volatile as both the military junta and the Arakan Army launch mutual offensives, with residents noting that the combat frequently intensifies under the cover of darkness.
