The Myanmar military has warned two ethnic Karen armed groups to ensure that its Infantry Battalion 275 in Myawaddy on the Thai border does not come under attack again, according to a source close to the groups.
The demand was made by the commander of the 22nd Light Infantry Division, which is based in the Karen State capital of Hpa‑an, during a meeting with the regime-allied Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA) and Karen National Liberation Army–Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC) on Monday.
He reportedly followed up the request with an official letter.
