In recent months, the only sounds that could be heard were those of heavy weaponry; however, currently, the sounds of machine guns and different kinds of small arms can also be heard near Kyaukphyu city, which hosts significant Chinese projects.
A local woman stated, "Since the start of this month, I have been hearing an increase in gunfire at night. Since last night and continuing into this morning, sounds of machine gun and artillery fire have been audible in close proximity. I did not listen as attentively as I did previously. I only hear it once every two or three days. The people in the city are also scared. If something happens, they will not even find a path to escape."
A resident in the area informed Narinjara that he heard gunfire coming from all parts of the 32nd Police Battalion, Dotan Mountain, Thaing Chaung, Zai Chaung, and the Dhanyawady Naval Headquarters daily, causing some local residents in the city to get ready to evacuate with their belongings.
