The Karen National Union (KNU) on 14 December strongly condemned the Myanmar junta’s airstrike on Mrauk-U General Hospital in Rakhine State, calling it a grave violation of international humanitarian law.

The statement is as follows.

On December 10th, the terrorist military bombed Mrauk-U People’s Hospital with 500-pound bombs, resulting in the deaths of 34 civilians and injuries to over 60 people. The KNU states that attacking basic infrastructure such as a public hospital constitutes a serious breach of international humanitarian law.

It has also been reported that the merciless terrorist military carried out another airstrike on Mrauk-U city on December 12th at 9:00 PM using two jet fighters. The statement notes that these terrorist attacks have further endangered the lives and property of civilian citizens.

The KNU strongly condemns the terrorist military’s deliberate attacks on civilian populations and protected structures such as medical facilities, religious buildings, and educational institutions. It asserts that these actions are crimes against the people and must be recognized as war crimes under international law.
