Joint forces of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Kachin People’s Defense Force (KPDF) attacked a military junta flotilla returning after delivering reinforcements, weapons, ammunition, and rations to Bhamo, Kachin State, on 8-9 September, resulting in the sinking and burning of several vessels, according to military sources.

The military flotilla encountered attacks from the KIA and KPDF joint forces while departing after delivering reinforcements, weapons, ammunition, and food supplies from Shwegu to Bhamo.

During the two-day clashes, at least 40 military junta troops were killed, and a large cache of weapons and ammunition was seized, military sources said.

In addition, the destroyed vessels included combat and cargo boats, with up to four vessels damaged or destroyed in total, according to the sources.

Currently, intense clashes continue on both land and waterways between the military junta forces trying to reinforce Bhamo Township and the KIA-KPDF joint forces.

Military sources added that during the clashes, besides casualties on the military junta’s side, some junta troops were captured as prisoners of war, and weapons and ammunition were seized.
