The Myanmar junta has lodged a protest after Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta’s Jan. 14 meeting with the resistance Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO), accusing Dili of interfering in its internal affairs.
East Timor’s president met a delegation from the group, which monitors junta atrocities, to talk about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Myanmar and “promoting justice and accountability,” according to a CHRO press release.
Myanmar’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement Sunday that Ramos-Horta’s recent engagement with the CHRO, which summitted a criminal complaint against it in Timor-Leste, constitutes “blatant interference.”
