Junta Drones Bomb Laytaung Town in Ramree Township

Amid intense clashes with the Arakan Army (AA) on Ramree Island, a strategically important region housing major Chinese infrastructure projects, the Myanmar military continues to target populated local towns and villages.

Earlier today, June 4, junta forces launched two drone strikes on residential areas in Ward 4 of Laytaung, a sub-town in Ramree Township.

According to local sources, the first strike hit at 3:16 p.m., followed by a second attack at 3:23 p.m.

While no human casualties were reported, residents confirmed that the blasts killed one cow and severely injured another belonging to a local villager, U Kyaw Min Tun.

"Lately, the terrorist military junta has been frequently scouting and bombing Ramree Township, including Ramree town, using both fighter jets and Y-12 transport aircraft," a local resident told Narinjara.

On June 1, around 8:30 p.m., a junta airstrike targeted a site hosting internally displaced persons (IDPs) between Kula Pone Taung and Ram Thitgyi village, killing two civilians and injuring five others.

On May 28, at around 7:00 a.m., junta forces bombed a road repair site near Pinne Taung and Taung Mao Oo, killing three people, including an excavator drive, and wounding four others. Meanwhile, intense ground and naval fighting continues nearby.

AA military sources recently released photos confirming that roughly 40 junta soldiers were killed and a large cache of weapons was seized during a battle near the Taung Maw Gyi naval base.

The base sits roughly five miles south of Maday Island, the site of major Chinese oil and gas pipelines and a deep-sea oil tanker port.

In response to its battlefield losses, the Myanmar military has increasingly relied on heavy artillery, naval barrages, airstrikes, and drone deployments against Rakhine civilian populations.
