Junta Airstrikes Kill Two Civilians, Injure Eight Others in Arakan

The Myanmar military continued its aerial bombardment of villages and residential areas in Rakhine State over the weekend, killing two people, including a woman, and seriously injuring eight others on June 14 and 15. The strikes also killed at least 10 cattle belonging to local farmers.

Military aircraft targeted the township for two consecutive days. The second wave of strikes occurred on June 15 at approximately 7:15 p.m., when a fighter jet dropped three 500-pound bombs on Rammarkyun village in Gwa Townshipm an area located in southern Rakhine State that is currently controlled by the Arakan Army (AA).

Two victims, identified as U Wai Lin (50) and Daw Thuzar Moe (38) of Rammarkyun village, died at the scene.

Eight other residents from the same village sustained severe injuries during the attack. The wounded were identified as Mayun Ei San (11), Ma Aye Myat Mon (12), Daw Aye Thandar (40), Daw Khin Phyu (52), Daw Su Myat Mon (42), Daw Khin U (70), Ko Aung Thura Win (26), and U Kyaw Nyunt Htay (53).

The previous day, on June 14 at around 12:00 p.m., a military fighter jet twice bombed Kyaw Chun village. That attack destroyed a home belonging to U Tin Cho and killed a cow owned by U Kyaw San Aung.

Moreover, a Myanmar junta airstrike and naval shelling destroyed a monastery and four homes in Aung Tha Pyay village, Kyaukphyu Township, on June 15 at approximately 10:00 AM.

A military aircraft dropped two bombs on the village. One bomb struck near the local monastery, causing the building to collapse. The second bomb exploded within the village, damaging the roofs and walls of two adjacent homes belonging to Daw Ma Thein Khin and U Khin Zaw Htun.

Earlier that morning, at around 8:30 AM, the Myanmar military fired four artillery shells from a naval vessel stationed at the Taung Maw base.

Two shells exploded inside Aung Tha Pyay village, destroying the homes of U Maung Kyauk Thi and U Maung Myint Zaw. The remaining two shells detonated near the village, instantly killing eight cows owned by local farmers U Maung Maung Chey, U Maung Hla Myint, and U Go Tha.

This attack follows an earlier incident on June 6, when a Y-12 transport aircraft dropped eight bombs on Bayar, Kaludiw, and Thit Katoe villages. That bombardment injured three civilians and damaged a monastery alongside several houses.

This attack highlights the escalating violence in a region that hosts critical Chinese infrastructure, including an oil tanker port, as well as major gas and crude oil pipelines.

Facing consecutive losses on the Arakan front, the Myanmar military has intensified its daily aerial and heavy weapon attacks. These operations increasingly target non-military civilian infrastructure, including towns, villages, religious buildings, schools, hospitals, and marketplaces.
