Japanese Cave, the final junta stronghold in Indaw, falls after seven-month battle

In August 2024, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA)-led revolutionary forces launched their campaign to capture Indaw. 

Despite capturing junta camps in the town one by one, the battle stretched on for months as the junta’s forces made the cave, built by the Japanese during World War II, their final stronghold.

The area, known locally as the Japanese Cave, was finally seized by the KIA and joint forces on the night of 7 April, marking the capture of Indaw town.
