ISP-Myanmar welcomes US designation of Min Zin as wrongfully detained

The Institute for Strategy and Policy – Myanmar (ISP-Myanmar) said in a statement on 20 August that it welcomes the announcement that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has formally designated their founding Executive Director, Min Zin, as wrongfully detained in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). It sends a clear message that Min Zin’s release is a top priority, ISP-Myanmar said.

“As an organization that keeps intellectual freedom at its core, this designation also reaffirms that independent, open-source researchers and academics should be able to conduct their work without fear of intimidation or arbitrary detention.

“We humbly ask that the US government continues to keep Min Zin’s case as a top priority, particularly ahead of President Xi’s visit to meet with President Trump next month, and that the People’s Republic of China (PRC) facilitate his immediate and unconditional release. We sincerely hope he can reunite with his family and team soon.”
