The Union Election Commission has announced that international election observers will be allowed to enter polling stations for observation in the 2025 multi-party democratic general election.
The Union Election Commission will issue election observer identification cards to international election observers to enter polling stations without affecting the secrecy of the ballot and the duties of the polling station team. The Union Election Commission has launched two programs for international election observers. The first program invites countries and organizations, including ASEAN countries, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The individuals who come will observe the election independently according to the Union Election Commission’s program.
The second plan is to invite diplomats from embassies and organizations from countries that have diplomatic relations with Myanmar to observe the election through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The diplomats can observe all three election phases, except for areas that are prohibited by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Immigration and Population for security reasons. The names of the observers are also being sent to the Union Election Commission through the relevant Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the respective countries, and the conditions for the observers’ arrival will be announced.
