International conference on Myanmar studies begins in Chiang Mai

The 5th International Conference on Burma/Myanmar Studies (ICBMS5) commenced on 14 August at Chiang Mai University, Thailand. The conference will address Myanmar’s current situation amidst military conflict and political transitions, alongside border governance, natural resources, and regional impacts.

During the three-day event, discussions will focus on Thai-Myanmar border issues, humanitarian aid, governance by armed groups, China-Myanmar relations, migration, and natural resource challenges.

Additionally, dedicated sessions are scheduled to address Myanmar’s expanding rare earth mining, global supply chains, and transboundary water pollution extending into Thailand.

The conference is being held at Chiang Mai University from 14 to 16 August.
