Human Rights Myanmar highlights the impact of USAID freeze on human rights, democracy, and independent media in Myanmar


Human Rights Myanmar released a statement on 6 February calling attention to the impact of the US Government decision to halt USAID funding and projects on human rights, democracy promotion, and independent media in Myanmar.


Text of the statement continues below.


The U.S. Government’s decision to close USAID has frozen $39,547,146 in funds committed to defending freedom in Myanmar over the next three years. It remains unclear when—or if—these essential funds will be reinstated.
