Heavy clashes erupt in 15 places near Sittwe, AA responds with heavy weapons

The Arakan Army (AA) and junta forces are engaged in heavy fighting in 15 places near the capital city of Sittwe, where the AA fighters are responding with heavy weapons to the Sittwe-based military battalions.


Starting at around 4 am on Saturday, the AA fighters responded to the Sittwe-based Shwe Min Gan naval battalion, 20th battalion, 12th battalion and 232nd battalion and Padamaw navy base, said a military source.


“We fired at five military locations in Sittwe with heavy weapons. Some of them hit their targets. However, casualties and damages are yet to be known,” added the source.


The Sittwe battalion (20) and police battalion (12) fired about 50 rounds of heavy weapons over Pauktaw and Ponnagyun townships on the night of 7 March. The ongoing fighting turned intensive in some areas under Sittwe locality.


Currently, the fighting is taking place in Wabo, Zawmatak, Shwemingan, Ratan, Kyintaw, Theintan, Tawgan (Kan), Nga Tauk Tak, Chi Lai Pha and Nya Kyun areas under Sittwe township and in Yo Ye Pyin, Sa Taung Puk, Aung Myay Kone, Myit Na and Nyo Rang areas under Ponnagyun township bordering Sittwe locality.


The junta forces have been bombing the areas where the gun fighting took place. Sittwe-based battalions are also firing heavy weapons.


The AA fighters are responding with heavy weapons and drones. The sound of heavy weapons can be heard from the downtown areas of Sittwe.
