A landmine attack on a Myanmar junta convoy near East Myo Thar village in Ngazun Township, Myingyan District, Mandalay Region, killed four soldiers and injured two others, a spokesperson for the Special Task Force Ngazun (S.T.F.N.) said.
The attack took place at around 5:20 am on 10 November along the Myo Thar Industrial Zone road. The convoy, comprising two vehicles and about 100 infantrymen, was targeted with six cluster landmines, according to the S.T.F.N.
“They came from the Myo Thar police station to attack the villages to the west. We had received the information the day before, so we intercepted them,” said the S.T.F.N. spokesperson.
He said four soldiers were killed instantly, and fighting continued for about 20 minutes following the blast.
Mizzima has not been able to independently verify the reported casualties.
After the attack, the same military column reportedly entered Kywe Zein village, looting residents’ gold and cash and taking 12 men hostage.
“They were attacked and are finding it difficult to retreat to the town, but there has been no burning of their houses,” the spokesperson added.
