Heavy clashes have escalated near Shwe Thaung Yan Town in Pathein Township, Ayeyarwady Region, as the military junta has launched ground offensives toward Bawmi Beach and Magyizin Village since early October, according to local sources.
A column of hundreds of junta troops has been advancing along the Thabaung to Magyizin Road, supported by continuous aerial bombardments and heavy naval artillery shelling, causing civilian casualties.
"The military regime is launching ground offensives along the Thabaung to Magyizin Road toward Bawmi Beach and Magyizin Village," a local source familiar with military developments said. "Revolutionary forces have intercepted their advance, leading to daily ground skirmishes backed by junta air attacks and naval artillery support."
Fierce fighting is ongoing around Bawmi, Jainglel, and Magyizin villages. Through these operations, junta forces are attempting to advance into the Kyaukchun area of Gwa Township in Arakan State.
On October 7, an artillery shell fired by a junta warship exploded in Bawmi Village, killing a local married couple identified as U Lin Htike and Daw Moe Moe, according to local residents.
Military sources reported that active engagements between junta forces and joint resistance troops led by the Arakan Army are taking place across Pathein, Thabaung, Yekyi, and Laymyethna townships in Ayeyarwady Region.
Troops from the 66th Light Infantry Division and units under the Southwest Command are operating jointly in an attempt to recapture lost outposts and territory across Ayeyarwady Region while also attempting to open an invasion front into Arakan State.
Local residents have expressed growing concern over civilian casualties caused by ongoing clashes, indiscriminate heavy artillery shelling, and landmines.
"Civilian casualties are mounting due to junta air attacks, artillery shelling, and landmines," a male resident of Yekyi Township said. "Villagers no longer dare to go to their farm fields."
On the morning of October 9, Artillery Battalion 344 shelled Zerosan Village, killing 62-year-old U Than Tun and his son at the scene, according to locals.
In addition to attempting to retake lost outposts at Point 188, Point 288, and Point 148 hilltop camps in Ayeyarwady Region, junta forces are also advancing toward Pandawgyi Village in Laymyethna Township, military sources said.
The Arakan Army and allied revolutionary forces have been conducting military operations across Pathein, Thabaung, Yekyi, Laymyethna, and Ingapu townships in Ayeyarwady Region since early 2025, capturing and maintaining control over at least 10 junta outposts.
