Four civilians were killed by airstrikes carried out by the Myanmar Air Force on Shwepyi village of Singu Township, Mandalay Region, residents told DVB on Friday.
“A fighter jet carried out four airstrikes which hit a school where displaced people had taken refuge,” a Singu resident told DVB on the condition of anonymity.
The Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) sheltering at the school in Shwepyi village, located on the Mandalay-Madaya-Mogok road, are from Madaya Township, 34 miles (54 km) south of Singu, which is 58 miles (93 km) north of Mandalay.
The People’s Defence Force (PDF) in Singu told DVB that an undisclosed number of IDPs were injured during the airstrikes.
Madaya residents took refuge in Singu during a regime counteroffensive that began three months ago, according to the PDF, which claimed it had seized Singu and 35 regime outposts in Madaya in July 2024.
Regime media reported that the military regained control of its outpost at Sedawgyi Dam in eastern Madaya Township on Nov. 7.
