Five Junta Soldiers Captured in Mindon Township Amid Failed Offensive Toward Rakhine

Five Myanmar military council soldiers,including one corporal, two lance corporals, and two conscripts,were captured by revolutionary forces after fleeing clashes in the western part of Mindon Township, Magway Division.

The People's Defense Force (PDF) Thayet District Battalion No. 4 officially announced the captures on August 30, releasing photographs of the detained junta troops.

Alongside the captures, revolutionary forces seized military equipment and weaponry. The confiscated items included one MA-3 assault rifle, 91 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, four ammunition boxes, a hand grenade, and a mobile phone. Several bodies of junta soldiers killed in action were also recovered from the battlefield.

According to military sources, the junta has been deploying massive reinforcements to Thayet District in a desperate bid to regain territory lost in Mindon Township.

The latest clash ignited at around 7:00 PM on August 29, when a junta column moving through western Mindon was ambushed by resistance fighters.

The ambush targeted a unit of roughly 50 junta soldiers who were preparing to forage for food. The Thayet District Battalion No. 4 intercepted them, triggering a fierce 10-minute firefight.

Sustaining heavy casualties, the junta forces were forced to retreat.

This localized fighting is part of a broader strategic push by the Myanmar military to open a new front from Magway Division into Rakhine State. The junta's objective is to invade the region and strike the Arakan Army (AA) bases located in the Arakan Roma mountain range.

To support this objective, the military has launched a massive, multi-pronged offensive to breach Rakhine State across six distinct border fronts. These include the borders shared between Rakhine and the Ayeyarwady Division, Bago Division, Magway Division, and southern Chin State.

Despite deploying heavy artillery, drone strikes, airstrikes, and Pyu Saw Htee (PA) militia forces, the junta continues to suffer severe territorial losses.

Due to relentless and coordinated counter-attacks by the Arakan Army, the military council's forces remain completely blocked from breaching the Rakhine border, facing daily desertions and mounting battlefield defeats.
