Fighting intensifies near Shwe Thaung Yan in Ayeyarwady Region; junta naval forces shelling coastline near Gwa

Reports indicate that there is fierce conflict occurring between the Junta army forces and the Arakan Army in the coastal regions of Shwe Thaung Yan and Tharpaung Township in Ayeyarwady Region. Furthermore, the navy is shelling along the coastline of Gwa Township in southern Arakan state.
The ongoing conflict is reported to be severe in the village of Ma Gyi Sin near Shwe Thaung Yan, which is a coastal town, as well as in the village of Thae Phyu in Tharpaung Township.
The People's Spring TV also reported on the conflict, citing local residents. Residents of Thae Phyu and Ma Gyi Sin reported that the violence has been intensifying recently.
Following the AA’s capture, in December 2024, of Gwa Township in Rakhine, close to the Ayeyarwady Region, reports indicate that hostilities have resumed in the areas of Baw Mi and Ma Gyi Sin near Shwe Thaung Yan in Pathein District.
On November 11 of this year, the press and information office of the AA released a statement indicating that the combat in the vicinity of Thar Paung Kalay village, located in Thar Paung Township, was severe.
The statement from the AA indicated that during the conflict, the battalions, specifically LIB (4), LIB (5), LIB (6), LIB (80), and LIB (63), which are part of the 66th Division, and LIB (63) and LIB 271 of the Southwestern Military Command based in Pathein, participated in the combat.
Additionally, in recent days, the junta Navy vessels have been shelling civilian areas in Gwa Township, which is presently under the control of the AA, with heavy artillery on a daily basis.
At approximately 10:40 pm on November 22, three naval vessels from the sea launched fifteen artillery shells at the villages located in Gwa Township. The naval artillery shells struck close to the outcrop at the mouth of Gwa Creek.
On the afternoon of November 21, the junta air force released two bombs over Kyeintali Town, located in Gwa Township, resulting in the death of a seven-year-old child and injuring four additional individuals.
