The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) announced that they have detained 52 militants who fled the clash with the Arakan Army in Myanmar and entered Bangladesh on Sunday morning. They were subsequently delivered to the Teknaf Police Station.
The battle between Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA) and the Arakan Army (AA) has resulted in the deaths of hundreds armed terrorist members, including ARA. Some of these individuals have fled into Bangladesh on the morning of January 11th.
According to a release from the Bangladesh Police, 52 of the fleeing terrorist members have been arrested. Probal News, a local news agency, has released a video file documenting this event.
In the Bengali-language video, a police officer reads out the affiliations of those arrested: 29 from the ARA group, 3 from ARSA, 18 from RIM, and 2 from an unorganized group. The total number of people arrested is reported to be 52.
These terrorist groups were apprehended by the Bangladesh Border Guards after attempting to attack AA camps along the Arakan border from within Bangladesh.
The battles occurred from the Naf River to Kyi Kyunt Island on the Rakhine-Bangladesh border at mileposts No. 45, 46, 35 and 36.
Locals reported that during these battles, many bodies and weapons belonging to the ARA groups were seized by the Army, and at least 70 people fled towards Bangladesh.
Some media outlets have reported that some of the ARA members managed to escape with injuries.
At the same time, the Myanmar military launched airstrikes along the border, leading to widespread panic, according to reports from Okiya News.
As reported by local media in Bangladesh, militant groups targeted AA camps located along the border from the ground, while the Myanmar military also initiated airstrikes.
Narinjara continues to communicate with U Khaing Thu Kha, the spokesperson of the Arakan Army, to obtain further details regarding the possibility of coordination between the junta and the terrorist groups located in Bangladesh during the hearings taking place in The Hague, Netherlands.
These hearings are focused on the Myanmar military government and allegations of genocide.
