ree

Myanmar citizens flooded a U.S. statement marking their country’s Independence Day with calls for Washington to follow up its action against Venezuela’s leader by arresting junta chief Min Aung Hlaing.

The statement—issued by Secretary of State Marco Rubio via the U.S. Embassy Facebook page on Sunday—reiterated deep concern over Myanmar’s ongoing crisis and reaffirmed Washington’s support for the people of Myanmar.

“The United States remains committed to the people of Burma [Myanmar] and their resolve for a peaceful, fair, and prosperous future… We urge the military regime to cease violence, ensure unhindered access to humanitarian assistance, release those unjustly detained, and engage in dialogue to pursue a peaceful and long-term end to the crisis,” the statement said.
