Strolling through Yangon’s streets in recent days, I keep asking myself: “Wait… is this really election season or did someone forget to push the start button?”
Phase 1 of the so-called “election” is supposed to be held on December 28, just four days away. Yet Myanmar’s largest city looks like its heading into another ordinary weekday, with nothing even remotely resembling a campaign atmosphere.
No party motorcades blaring slogans. No volunteers shoving pamphlets at passersby. No candidates sweating through door‑to‑door visits.
