Elderly Woman Succumbs to Injuries After Airstrike on IDP Camp in Kyaukphyu Township, Arakan

An elderly woman who sustained critical injuries during an airstrike on an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Kyaukphyu Township, Arakan State, has died while receiving medical treatment, local sources reported.



The deceased has been identified as Daw Aung Myat Nu, a woman in her 90s from Pyartae Village in Kyaukphyu Township.



The attack occurred at around 12:05 a.m. on January 17, when the Myanmar military carried out an aerial assault on an IDP camp near Kyaukkale Village. According to available information, the strike involved two bombs dropped by jet fighters, four bombs delivered by suicide drones, and four rounds of heavy artillery fired from naval vessels.



Daw Aung Myat Nu suffered severe injuries to her upper body and left thigh as a result of the bombardment. She died at approximately 11 p.m. on January 18 while undergoing medical treatment.



With her death, the number of women killed in the attack on the IDP camp has risen to three, sources said.



Earlier, on the night of January 14, at around 10 p.m., heavy artillery fired from a Myanmar military naval vessel struck a farm hut near Thaphan Chaung Village in Kyaukphyu Township, killing a husband and wife who had been sheltering there instantly.
