An elderly man was killed and roughly 10 properties, including homes and shops, were destroyed by Myanmar military attacks in Sane Town, located in Rakhine State's Kyaukphyu Township.
According to local reports, the Myanmar Navy launched a bombardment using heavy artillery and drone strikes from the morning of May 26 until noon, targeting Sane Town.
A 78-year-old local resident, U Maung Shwe Sein, was fatally wounded by a drone bomb and died while being transported for medical treatment.
"Yesterday, the Taung Maw Gyi Navy base targeted Sane Town with drone bombs," a local resident reported. "The entire local market has been burned down, and intense fighting is now taking place near the naval base."
The military junta reportedly retaliated against the residential areas of Sane after suffering heavy casualties during clashes with Arakan Army (AA) near Ava Taung village. The conflict has since spread closer to the Taung Maw Gyi Navy Base.
This latest assault follows an earlier incident on the afternoon of May 19, when the Myanmar military launched airstrikes on the Shwe Hintha Ward of Sane Town, destroying nearly 100 homes.
