Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,565) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
A total of (32,192) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (15,083) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,732) remain to be verified.
These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
Regardless of its efforts to gain international legitimacy, the junta’s acts of violence are becoming increasingly severe with each passing day. Even as the junta staged a ceremonial event in Nay Pyi Taw to mark the 11th anniversary of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), its forces were intensifying airstrikes targeting civilians across various areas in the country, resulting in mass casualties.
According to reports from the ground, recent aerial bombardments during this period have claimed the lives of at least 10 people in Thit Gyi Taw Village, Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, on October 16, and at least 5 people in the vicinity of Chaung Son Village, Paletwa Township, Chin State, and 5 people in Ohn Taw village, Pakokku Township, Magway Region, on October 18.
