⁨Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,282) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.


A total of (31,776) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,711) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,864) remain to be verified.


These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.


The junta has been intensifying its airstrikes and drone strikes targeting civilian areas. On August 13, junta forces carried out an aerial bombing on Kyeintali Town, Gwa Township, Rakhine State, despite no clashes occurring, killing eight civilians, including children. Similarly, on August 15, junta forces carried out a drone attack on Thee Kone Village, Saw Township, Magway Region, for no apparent reason, killing three civilians.


In addition, junta forces have been deliberately targeting and destroying civilian infrastructure. On August 12, they carried out an aerial bombardment of a monastery in Taw Hlan Village, Shwegu Township, Kachin State, damaging buildings. Additionally, on August 14, they also carried out a drone bombing on Shwe Ba Yet Village, Singu Township, Mandalay Region, burning down a monastery building and some houses, according to information on the ground.
